Round 10 Winners!Well Round 10 of the Lyrik Awards has now been and gone but we thought it would be good to let you al know who the winners were. The night was held on the 5th May at the Koorliny Arts Centre and was by far the biggest awards night that LyriK has put on to date. Over 200 people packed in to the theatre at the Arts Centre to be a part of rewarding and recognising those young people in our Kwinana community that had been making significantly positive contributions to the world around them. As we had so many nominations for this round, the calibre of the young people that were nominated was so great that for this round we also awarded a highly commendable prize to some of the young people that just missed out on winning their category. So without any further adue, here are the winners.... Leadership - Zoe Adams Mateship - Trent Buswell Respect - Tahj Hilzinger-Smith Inspiration - Kristie Nicholson Achievment - Kerrie-Ann Wright Teamwork - Yr 7 Clontarf Boys The young people that were highly commended were: Lucann Cooper (Leadership), Bailey Brett (Mateship), Justin Loy (Teamwork), Ben Joss (Respect) and Cassandra Nicholson (Achievement). Round 11 is now open for nominations, so if you want to recognise a young person aged 10 -15 for their contribution then make sure you get in your nomination! Nomination Record for Round 10!Well the deadline for nominations has now passed, but we are very proud to say that we received a record amount of 34 nominations for Round 10 of the LyriK Awards! It has been great to see so many young people acknowledged for their good work within Kwinana. For all those who have been nominated this round (some of you may not even know if you have!), invitations will be coming out very soon for the awards ceremony, which will be happening on Wednesday night 5th May, so keep an eye on your letterbox. Round 10 LyriK Nominations Almost Due!We are currently accepting nominations for Round 10 of the LyriK awards, but the deadline is approaching fast! April 1st is when any nominations you may have need to be in. So if you have a friend, brother, sister, daughter, son, niece, nephew....you get the idea! If you know anyone aged between 10-15 who has contributed positively to the community of Kwinana then fill out a nomination form, send it in and they could be a Round 10 LyriK award winner and have $150 to spend on something of their choice. Mrs T's Shoe CollectionMrs T’s Shoe Collection is a comical story about a woman’s (Mrs Tarvoskinichie) fun obsession with shoes and the adventures in finding enough space for her overflowing collection. Mrs T’s Shoe Collection will have you giggling to your as she discovers just how many pairs of shoes she actually has… Congratulations Sharni Winter!Sharni took out both the LYRIK Young Person of the Year award and the inaugural LYRIK Progress award. The Progress award is awarded to the young person who has demonstrated continued personal development and community contribution since receiving their initial LYRIK nomination. LyriK nominees continue to impress the judges at the latest round of the LyriK AwardsRound 9 of the LYRIK awards was held on 3 December 2009. The LYRIK Groups of the Year were presented to the Bertram Gardenflies and Dance 4 Africa Advanced Group. Sharni Winter took out both the LYRIK Young Person of the Year and Progress Awards. LyriK wins a National AwardThe Town of Kwinana's LyriK program that aims to recognise, celebrate and reward positive youth behaviour has won the Youth Engagement award at the National Awards for Local Government. Awards NightKwinana youth excel yet again The LyriK Youth Incentive Program continues to reward and encourage young people in Kwinana for the positive contributions that they make in the community, with a number of youth acknowledged at an award presentation in May. Children Book CompleteAmberleys children book is now complete! Amberley, aged 10, attends Bertram Primary School and was originally nominated into the LyriK program for her achievements in winning an award with the Tim Winton Award for Young Writers. |
About LyriK
LyriK is a multi-faceted program which rewards and recognises young people for their contribution to the Kwinana community.
LyriK consists of:
Awards Ceremonies (May, August and December each year)
Young people can be nominated for awards in the categories of Respect, Mateship, Achievement, Leadership and Teamwork.
Leadership Camps
Leadership camps are also held three times a year, and provide off-site opportunities for young people to practice their leadership and communication skills.
Junior & Senior Media Groups
The media groups are the heart of the Konnect magazine, made of groups of young people contributing articles, reviews, stories and more in their spare time.
Konnect Magazine
The Konnect magazine is a publication written by young people for young people. It is published three times a year in conjunction with the LYRIK awards ceremonies.
Workshops
LYRIK workshops are run monthly, and aim to develop young people’s self-awareness, communication and leadership skills.
Projects
LYRIK Projects are a recent addition, providing young people the opportunity to apply for a grant of $500 - $1000 to spend on a project benefiting the Kwinana community.
Youth Mentoring
The Youth Mentoring Program matches young people with community volunteers passionate about developing them personally and professionally.
